Focus on safety and function
Safety requirements are at the heart of every laboratory construction project. Depending on the type of research, laboratories must be able to withstand different biological or chemical hazards, regulated by safety levels S1 to S3 in accordance with the Biological Agents Ordinance. While S1 laboratories already require increased care when handling working materials, S2 and especially S3 laboratories require complex protective measures for people, the environment and the product, e.g. airlocks, negative pressure, special ventilation and filter technology as well as robust, cleanable surfaces.
In addition, the Technical Rules for Workplaces (ASR) must be observed in the laboratory environment. They define requirements for work routes, escape and rescue plans, room climate, lighting and ergonomic workplace design. Requirements from TRGS 526 (Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances in Laboratories), DIN EN 12128 and DIN 1946-7 for ventilation and air conditioning systems are also relevant and are incorporated into our planning at an early stage.
